Slip and fall accidents can happen anywhere. They may occur in the workplace, restaurants, retail stores, or on public property. A fall can cause many different types of traumatic injuries. If you’ve developed unusual symptoms after slipping and falling, it’s in your best interests to visit a chiropractor at Miami Accident Center.

There are four general types or categories of slip and fall cases:
• Trip and Fall: Foreign object in a normally clear walkway.
(Example: cardboard boxes in a grocery store aisle)
• Stump and Fall: An impediment or obstruction causes a person to stumble when walking.
(Example: stumbling on a misaligned sidewalk)
• Step and Fall: There is a hole, crack or other foundational failure in the walking surface.
(Example: an uncovered manhole on a city sidewalk)
• Slip and Fall: The meeting of the shoe’s sole and floor surface fails because of a slippery substance or surface.
(Example: slipping on spilled paint at the hardware store)

Fractures
Falls can cause severe injuries such as fractures of the limbs, vertebrae, or other bones. If you find it difficult to place weight on the affected body part or the body part isn’t functioning properly, this may be indicative of a fracture. Other possible symptoms include pain, swelling, and disfigurement.

Back Injuries
In addition to compression fractures, slip and fall injuries can include other back injuries such as disc herniation. Patients with a herniated disc may experience pain in the upper or lower back, depending on the location of the affected disc. If the herniated disc is in the neck, the pain can extend into the shoulders and along the arms. Lumbar herniated discs can cause pain through the buttocks and legs. When the herniated disc material compresses nerves in the area, patients can experience numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness.

Shoulder Injuries
Individuals who slip and lose their balance may fall on a shoulder. This can inflict damage on the rotator cuff, which is a collection of muscles and tendons that support the shoulder joint. Rotator cuff injuries are characterized by pain, loss of mobility, and arm weakness. It can become difficult to perform everyday tasks. Mild rotator cuff injuries may be treatable with physical therapy and chiropractic care.
