So you think you want to drive a commercial truck? Getting a CDL has several parts, including the Miami CDL Medical exam and passing your DOT Physical exam.
What does a DOT physical consist of?
First, get a copy of the Commercial Driver’s Licensing manual for your state. This is important because it outlines the CDL medical exam requirement and:
- Each state has their own process for the CDL
- It will help you decide what type of vehicle you want to drive and what kind of driving you want to do
- There are three different types of CDLs and each one has a written and skills test
Get your Commercial Driver’s Learner’s Permit
This is the first step in the commercial driver licensing process. With this type of license, you must drive with a licensed commercial driver next to you.
The CDL Medical Exam Requirement
To get this CLP, your driving record will also be checked 10 years back, in all 50 states. You will also be required to bring your CDL medical exam card to your licensing appointment. This means you will need to get a DOT physical from a licensed Miami DOT physical location and certified DOT physical & CDL medical exam provider.
Here at Miami Accident Center, we are on the list provided by the DOT and offer same day DOT physicals / CDL medical exams. The CDL Medical Exam / DOT physical exam certification is good for 24 months in most cases. In some cases, however, you may be given a provisional or limited certification.
Finally, there will be residency requirements and a fee for the license.
Get your Commercial Driver’s License
You must have the CLP for 14 days before you can apply for your CDL. This is one of the major CDL licensing requirements.
You must pass all three parts of the CDL Skills Test: the Vehicle Inspection Test, the Basic Controls Test, and the Road Test.
If you pass the CDL Skills Test, at that point, you will pay for your CDL. In some cases, you will get the license the same day. In other cases / states, it may be mailed to you.
In either situation, do always make sure you check all paperwork for accuracy before you leave the DOT testing / CDL testing location. Otherwise, it may delay your CDL licensing while the errors are fixed.
